Hello San Diego! We hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving! As always, once winter approaches, the number of cross-cultural events tapers off. The biggest event happening around town is next weekend's (Friday and Saturday) December Nights at Balboa Park. Lots and lots of organizations will have performances and will be serving all manners of food and drink. There will also be a plethora of vendors selling their wares, so you can get in some holiday shopping too. Music and/or dance performances around town include Mexican banda Marca MP at Balboa Theatre (Tonight), Mexico City's Los Blenders at the Soda Bar (Sunday), Irish Christmas in America at the CCA (Wednesday), A Merry-achi Christmas at Balboa Theatre (Thursday), and Mexican singer Marisela at the Civic Theatre next Thursday. Next Friday, the weekend kicks off with a number of music concerts and events, including Brazilian Music Storytime at the Point Loma Library, Latin GRAMMY® winner Mireya Ramos at the Conrad, Metalachi at the Holding Company, Puerto Rican singer Yandel and Cal Coast Open Air, and the Liverpool Legends at Balboa Theatre. The films being screened at the Barona Cultural Center in Celebration of Native American Month wrap up on Saturday. Next Friday, at the French American School, they will show the film L'Attachement along with English subtitles. The play Beauty's Daughter will continue at Diversionary this weekend, wrapping up on Sunday. Other notable events include a Hurricane Relief for Sweet Jamaica Fundraiser at the WorldBeat Center on Saturday, The Barrio Logan Chicano Shop Hop event (also on Saturday), the Latina Book Fair at KPBS (SDSU) on Wednesday, and A Ukrainian Borscht Cooking Day at the Hall of Nations on Thursday).

Lastly, the Worldview Project, which produces this newsletter every week (and does lots of other stuff too!), is a non-profit organization. Supporting cross-cultural awareness, understanding, and engagement has never been more critical than it is now. As you may have noticed, we don't annoy you with advertisements or constant fundraising appeals. But we need your support to continue to do what we do. In particular, we are seeking our readers' help in funding the further development of our Cultures in the Classroom™ curriculum project to inspire children to connect with and appreciate the wonder of cultures around the world. You can show your support by clicking on the "Donate to the WVP" button above and making a tax-deductible donation to the WVP. No donation is too small—even a dollar would be appreciated!
Everyone here at the
San Diego Participant Observer and the
Worldview Project wish you fulfilling, illuminating, and culturally-rich experiences in the days ahead. See you next week!
